LaLiga: Diego Godin signs for Inter

Inter have announced the signing of former Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin on a three-year deal. The Uruguayan’s contract with Los Rojiblancos came to an end and therefore joins Inter on a free transfer. Godin became an Atletico legend during his nine-year spell in the Spanish capital, winning one LaLiga Santander title, a Copa del Rey, three European Super Cups and two Europa League trophies. «There’s a new sheriff in town,» the Italian club posted on social media to welcome their new player. Godin will work under the orders of new Inter coach Antonio Conte, who is aiming to make the club serious title contenders in Serie A. The Uruguayan will add to Inter‘s already strong defensive options in Milan Skriniar, Stefan De Vrij and his former Atletico centre-back partner...

Real Madrid signs Eden Hazard from Chelsea

Real Madrid signed Eden Hazard from Chelsea on Friday for its second major offseason addition, and reportedly its most expensive ever. The 28-year-old forward joined Madrid on a five-year contract and a transfer fee reported to be around 100 million euros ($113 million) plus variables, which would make him the club’s biggest signing. Madrid is rebuilding after one of the worst seasons in club history and had added forward Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt earlier this week. The Spanish club hadn’t made any blockbuster signings in years and was yet to bring in a top player to try to replace Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal forward left to join Juventus last season. Hazard had already indicated his final game for Chelsea was last week’s Europa League final victory over Arsenal. With tw...

Valencia have won the Copa del Rey

Barcelona were denied an unprecedented fifth successive Copa del Rey crown as they lost 2-1 to Valencia in Saturday’s final, heaping the pressure on under-fire coach Ernesto Valverde. Having had a realistic chance at a treble just a few weeks ago, Barca finish the season with only the league title to show for their efforts, a situation likely to increase Valverde’s unpopularity among supporters. Barca were way off their best in the first half at the Benito Villamarin and deservedly found themselves trailing 2-0 at the break, as Kevin Gameiro and Rodrigo Moreno clinically punished the defending champions. Valverde’s men pushed forward desperately after the break and Lionel Messi pulled one back shortly after being denied by the post, but their dominance proved futile as Va...

Kroos signs Madrid contract extension to 2023

The World Cup-winning midfielder will be sticking around at the Santiago Bernabeu, with another 12 months added to his terms in the Spanish capital Toni Kroos has committed his future to Real Madrid by agreeing a contract extension through to 2023. Kroos, 29, joined Madrid for €25 million in July 2014 and won 12 trophies including three Champions Leagues and one La Liga title in his first four seasons in Spain. The World Cup winning-midfielder had been tied to the Blancos until 2022, but another 12 months have now been added to his terms at the Santiago Bernabeu. That means he will be going nowhere during a summer expected to deliver much change in the Spanish capital. Real said in a statement on their official website: “Real Madrid CF and Toni Kroos have agreed to extend the player’...
